- FACTS: Baldwin II was the 2nd Lord of Marets, Cambray, Normandy, France. He
fought in the Crusades in Palestine against the Turks, and for his bravery
in the Holy Land, he received from the King of Jerusalem, in fief, the
city of Rhosas, in Palestine, which caused his coat of arms to add Four
Roses. These rewards were short lived and mostly paper. Conquered with
his father Acre, Cesaraea, Ptolemais, Beirut, Sidon and Tyre and held it
from 1118 to 1131. In 1142, Baldwin and the Count of Edessa, Josselin de
Courtenay, reoccupied the city of Edessa, taking it from the Sultan
Noradin. All was lost to Atabeks in 1144. All of the Near East was
reconquered by Mohammedans by 1291.
