- FACTS: 1st Lord of the fiefdom of Marets and vicinity, near Cambray, France;
He took part in the First Crusade in Palestine against the Turks, and was in command of
Christian forces in Northern Palestine, on the western borders of the County of Edessa,
and the northern portions of the County of Antioch. A station on the road to Jerusalem
from Antioch was named "Maresia", after the home, Marets, in France of Baldwin. The Turks
called it "Marash". Marash now (1993) appears "Maras" in Southern Turkey. Antioch is now
called "Antakya" and is near Syria and the Mediterranean Sea. conquered Acre, Cesaraea,
Ptolemais, Beirut, Sidon, and Tyre in the years 1110-1118.

Reginald DES MARETS (c.1115-?) *born in Cambray, Normandy, France. Reginald fought in the First Crusade in Palestine. He married a daughter
of the Count of Edessa. She remarried, after Reginald's death, to
Almarick, Count of Joppe, who in 1162, became King of Jerusalem.
