- FACTS: An eminant physician and one of the first elected members of the College of Physicians. He carried on a private school for medical instruction at his residence at 107 Front St., Philadelphia where he educated many distinguished members of his profession. In 1780 he visited Europe, and on his return in May 1784, delivered a lecture on Pneumatics at the Old Hall of the College, Forth ST. below Arch, and exhibited to his friends the first balloon seen in this country. In 1784 he was elected a member of the American Philisophical Society, and in 1786 became one of its secretaries, Benjamin Franklin being president.
