- IMMIGRATION: Sailed on the ship Amity from Downs for Pennsylvania, February 23, 1682, as assistant to William Penn's surveyor, Captain Thomas Holmes. Commenting on his son's appointment as surveyor, the elder Claypoole remarked with wisdom, "In a few years his occupation may become profitable. However, it will be a present maintenance and keep him from ill company." He was clerk of the Colonial Assembly from 1686 to 1690; collector of Supply Money for Philadelphia; appointed as High Sheriff of Philadelphia in 1687 and again in 1693.
