Testimony of James Asdale Bowser, son of Ephraim:
Ephraim was named for Ephraim Buffington, the first person to call after he was born. Buffington was not a relative, but a man of some importance. A brief of the Buffington family can be found in "History of Armstrong County" by Robert Walter Smith, Esq., 1883, p. 589-591. James A. Bowser continued on to say his father's full name as given at birth was actually "Ephraim Buffington Sherden Mervin Bowser". Every man who came to see his mother the day he was born got a share of his name!
Ephraim Bowser was a hard working man who took good care of his family. Before 1909 Samuel A. Gray and his family moved in with them. Sam was rather bossy and not a good worker. Ephraim gathered in supplies for the winter but said there would no be enough for him and Sam's family too, so he left. Ephraim's wife had always been defensive of her relatives. Ephraim lived the rest of his life on a neighbor's farm.
Ephraim bowser was 3 or 4 inches shorter than his son, James Asdale Bowser, who stood 5 foot 9 inches.
According to Ephraim's son, Walter McKinley Bowser, Ephraim died of diabetes.
From: Suellen McCollim: Ephraim is buried at Montgomeryville Baptist Church cemetery in Adrian, Armstrong County, PA. He and his wife, Margaret Gray Bowser, were separated in later years. She moved to California and lived with her son in Bakersfield, where she died. (She lived there with her youngest son, Walter McKinley Bowser "W.K. Bowser".
